Tips on Boosting your Wifi Signal

The final question on the 9pm Tech Wednesday call was a man asking about better WiFi for his large home. I also have a large home and had similar problems. I tried extenders and they were very unreliable and dropped constantly. I researched alternatives and went with Google Home WiFi. This product creates a mesh network over your entire home using small white “hockey pucks”. Each one is actually a router.

I pay for 100Mbps from Spectrum and the furthest corner of my property (outside the home) now gets at least 90mbps. Inside furthest point hits upwards of 114mbps. I have 4 units in the house to cover everywhere. A three pack is around $250 and the units are about $115 each when purchased separately. One unit plugs directly into your modem and the others just need power. Each one also has an available port to hardware a device. The entire system takes about 10 minutes to set up. The best tech investment I ever made. One other point about Google Home WiFi. It does not increase your speed it just makes your entire bandwidth available from each router. Each unit covers approx 1500 s/ft.

Here is a link to a short video explaining the product - watch now!

Make sure VIPtv is set up correctly

VIPtv On Roku Instructions

People have been curious to see if they can watch VIPtv on their ROKU. While there is a way to do so, we do not recommend it.

Watching VIPtv with a Roku is nowhere near as user friendly as using a Firestick. There is no way to load the TV Guide on the Roku either. We just wanted to make sure that you knew the facts ahead of time before you attempt to go this route.

The instructions are as follow:

1. From home screen scroll down to and select "Streaming channels"
2. Arrow once to the right and select "search channel"
3. Type in "m3u" and arrow to the right
4. Select m3u playlist player and add channel
5. When channel is added select "go to channel" (Note: the channel will also appear on the "home" section of the homepage)
6. Select playlist 1
7. Name it "VIP TV" and click next
8. Type in URL info as follows:
http://api.vstreamtv.live/vget?username=VIPusername&password=VIPpassword&format=ts

(Important Note: Enter your VIP TV username where it reads "VIPusername" and enter your password where it reads "VIPpassword" -- no spaces).

Here is an example of how the URL should be if your VIP username was "test" and your password was "LeTsGetPaid"

EXAMPLE:  You would enter the URL as follows with no spaces:
http://api.vstreamtv.live/vget?username=test&password=LeTsGetPaid&format=ts

9. Click next
10. Select VIP TV

LG or Samsung Smart TVs

We've found a way top get VIPtv to work on all LG or Samsung Smart TVs from year 2013 and newer.

Here's how:

Hit the Smart Hub button from your tv remote, select favorites and select apps.

In apps screen go to search magnifying glass and type in "Smart IPTV"

Download and open. Please note: the Smart IPTV app has a cost associated with it after the 7 day trial period is up.

As you open you will see the "TV/Device mac address" -- write it down.

On a separate device go to http://siptv.eu/mylist/.

On the second line "add external playlist links" you will enter this URL: http://api.vstreamtv.live/vget?username=VIPusername&password=VIPpassword&format=ts

On the right select "add link"

Once that is completed exit the smart iptv app from the tv and re-enter. Your stations will then be added.

VOD has been rolled out

Have you logged into your VIPtv today? If you access VIPtv through the website then you'll notice that there's a new menu choice at the top called "Video On Demand Beta". This is a one-stop place to access movies and TV shows.

Just scroll through the options to see new and favorite options, or search for a specific show or movie. You can catch up on an entire season of your favorite show! This is a cord-cutters dream! Check it out as soon as you can.

Keep in mind since it is a beta release that there may be a little bit of lag loading things if this is your first time access it. It's really cool though and you should definately play around with it.

For the next 1-2 days we will be tweaking and optimizing the VOD, so if you experience buffering etc please give it some time.
